Garren Epley's sound lies somewhere between the tape deck and the trash bin. His use of hardware and fear of MIDI leaves for a warm, warbly, off kilter feel, with swirling pads, over-compressed samples and dusty drum breaks ripped straight from the record. His latest EP favors more synth heavy production, a slight departure from Tesoro, but still remains cohesive with his style.

Subject: Great EP, great artist
Subject: Great EP, great artist
This EP spans a wide variety of sounds. From Lo-Fi almost turntablist tracks like ".", and several chilled instrumentals, to a blazing (and hilarious) rap track on "...".
The sounds are good, well mixed, but still wild. At times certain drums or synths get so loud they distort, showing what must be the limits of the artist's apparently all hardware approach.
Personal favorites are tracks .. and .......
they are relaxed, but groovy, sort of in between J-Dilla, and some of the newer electronic acts like ratatat.
Great find, and good to know that the netlabel beat scene is still alive, looks like Oligopolist Records has more on the way too!
